Highland Babe Ruth Baseball Team

The Highland Babe Ruth baseball team, composed of 18 players that have attended the School Town of Highland, has just finished another great season down south in Lexington, Kentucky.

After taking a break of approximately six days between the high school sectional tournament and the start of the Babe Ruth season, the players capped off the summer with a great record of 19-9, according to head coach Sam Michel.

Every single player on the team has been a student at the School Town of Highland at one point in their educational career. There were a wide variety of ages represented on the team as well, from the Class of 2023 all the way to the Class of 2028.

After once again winning the Indiana state championship this year, the team narrowly fell to Youngstown in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament in Lexington on Sunday, July 21, with an extremely close score of 6-7. Despite the loss, Michel is very proud of all that the team accomplished in the past few months and looks toward the future with optimism.

“The relationships you build make it all worth it,” Michel said. “I’m hoping to have set ourselves up for a big spring coming up.”

Coach Michel, who is also the assistant varsity baseball coach at Highland High School, was aided by three other coaches that have deep-rooted connections with Highland as well.

He states that all of the coaches “at the very least played Highland Little League and Babe Ruth.” Additionally, Michel says that most of the coaches were on the varsity team at Highland High School when they attended. Ultimately, every single person associated with the Babe Ruth team has affiliations, past or present, with STOH.

Congratulations to the entire Highland Babe Ruth team and coaching staff - you have certainly made us #HighlandProud!
