Welcome, and thank you for visiting the School Town of Highland Web pages.  I believe the following information is what we are about:

Our educational philosophy is derived from a belief in the value of education in our society.  The development of each individual student is the responsibility and ultimate goal of all school personnel.   Therefore, we continually work to establish policies and procedures that will assist our students in obtaining their academic and career goals.  Our school district will promote an environment in which students are not only safe, but also challenged, encouraged, and ultimately successful in attaining their highest potentials.

Our fiscal philosophy is derived from a belief that education is one of the best investments we can make, and the return to an individual and to society from that investment is substantially under-assessed by many critics.  It is through the accomplishments of our students we serve that a society truly prospers.  The more we focus our limited capital outlay on student learning, the more society will benefit.
We are proud of our student's accomplishments throughout the district, and we continually evaluate their performances and make necessary changes to strengthen our curriculum to improve any weaknesses.  I welcome you to visit the Public/Parents section from our web page to view our School Data, the Indiana Educational Standards, Parents' Guide to the Common Core State Standards and AYP.  This information will give you an historical view of the accomplishments our district and the state requirements placed upon the schools of Indiana.

Our school corporation, as well as school corporations throughout the state, is involved in a period of change and transition.   Students today are being held to far greater requirements and expectations than ever before.  Due to some decline in enrollment and reduction in state financial support, the School Town of Highland will see a decrease in the General fund of $350,000 for the 2013 budget year.   The biggest challenge facing the Highland School District is maintaining a high standard of student learning and improvement during this period of financial instability.  Our energies are directed toward working with teachers on identifying areas of budget reductions, and at the same time maintaining a high level of academic success for our students.

I welcome your comments.
