Dr. Sherri Mitchell, Director

Welcome to the Curriculum & Instruction webpage for the School Town of Highland.

From the time I stood in front of my first classroom of high school English students a few years ago, to my roles as assistant principal and then principal, and now my current position as curriculum director here in Highland, my guiding philosophy has been, I should never feel guilty about doing what's best for kids. I should only feel guilty if I don't.  As a parent, and now a grandparent of children attending Indiana schools, I understand the magnitude of the responsibility we have as educators.  I will never take that responsibility lightly. ~~ Dr. M

The School Town of Highland's primary objective is to provide all our students, K-12, with a challenging and engaging educational experience that will prepare them for post-secondary education/training--to be College and Career Ready--and to be successful contributors in our highly competitive, global economy.  Our curriculum is in the process of being aligned to the state's newly adopted Common Core State Standards.  Our 2011-12 kindergarten class curriculum was aligned ONLY to the Common Core State Standards. Beginning in 2012-2013 all elementary grades (K-5) math and English/Language Arts will be aligned to the CCSS.  For more information on the CCSS, follow the Curriculum link below.
